Product Design Student at the National College of Art and Design, Ireland.
I don't always wear yellow, but this yellow, on yellow, on yellow situation was too good to pass up.
My journey so far has been diverse, a net cast wide, with many interests and nuggets of wisdom mined from different backgrounds. I always have a desire to explore new territories and learn more. However since starting Product Design in 2019 I know I have found my calling. To me Design is the symbiotic opportunities that shape the very world we live in. To be part of that creation process is a deeply enriching, restorative daily challenge that drives and motivates me in ways no other career path has so far.
However, with hindsight, I understand now, as I learn more about design, my past experiences all contribute to my understanding of the world and the people in it. As designers we must be specialized within certain areas, for example, how to use a particular program, so we can best communicate our ideas. But to generate ideas, connections and solutions we must be generalists.
From retail I learned human needs and desires, from wholesale sales, forecasting and systems, from service industries, communication and hard work. From Landscape Architecture the power of design on human psyche and long term thinking. From my desire to keep learning, that only constant reading will keep you sharp. And finally, from my love of exploration, that adventure and play are incredibly important, as a tool for self reinvigoration but also as process through which design can bloom.
