We set ourselves the goal of coming up with 10 concepts each, 30 in total. We gave ourselves 45 minutes and when the time was up we let each team member go through their list. We then discussed the ideas we agreed were the most promising in further detail, fleshing them out.
In the end we ended up combining several ideas together for our final concept.
Before this project none of us had any experience writing Arduino code or building circuits so we had to learn fast and on the job. Lorna focused on researching code while I focused on what we would need to do to wire up the breadboard and what parts we would need in order to make our RFID tags scan and register an uptick in the amount of times the article had been worn.
Lorna researches the code we need and uploads it to our controller board
We stitched RFID Tags into some cloth so we could attach them to our clothes.
Now that we had our working prototype inside its mockup housing we needed to build our App interface. The interface was styled from a painting Lorna did 12 months before the project. We wanted something calming for the morning and so knew we wanted pastel colours. When we mentioned this, the painting popped into Lorna's head and once we saw it we knew that would be our theme. The painting is pictured to the right. The rest of the interface's design was shaped by our interviews, survey answers and brainstorming session.
A good morning with an inspirational quote. Followed by a "Quick Select Outfit" option in case you're in a rush. A weather section which allows you to see the forecast for the day and help you plan your outfit.
You can add new garments to your inventory by photographing them and registering the RFID tag on your phone. The inventory can also be filtered by last scanned location ie. your wardrobe, shoe rack, washing machine etc.
Before we shot the footage for the film we took the time to write down all the features of the design which we wanted to make sure we communicated in our video.
We created a storyboard so we knew what shots we needed to get for the edit. I then used Premier Pro to edit and export the video.
Scan the QR Code to see our website, test the interface on your own phone.
